LEGAL ACCESS PROGRAMMES
LAP provides broad legal defence and services for individuals and a diverse spectrum of client groups struggling to maintain their rights or redress violations. Cases litigated usually concern human rights guaranteed under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as other human right Instruments. Lawsuits may focus on the following main areas:
- Civil and political rights
- Access to economic, social and cultural rights.
- Access to social services and infrastructure, including land reforms, and equalization of opportunities to social benefits.
- Sexual discrimination in the workplace; and sexual harassment in educational institutions.
- Discriminiation against religious, ethnic or linguistic minorities, persons with disabilities and those living with diseases.

The Legal Access Programme is AJ's direct tool of confronting social injustices. Through this progarmme, AJ applies the law to challenging oppressive, discriminatory or arbitrary action against individuals and groups.
